Improve your Memory Have Fun in Remembering Names
Have you ever been in a situation where you have met someone and have been talking for an hour or two but your memory failed you and all the while you’ve been trying to remember the person’s name? You have been wondering what the name of the person is. You know his name was mentioned when you were introduced to each other but you just simply forgot it. And all the while you avoided mentioning calling him by his name while the conversation keeps going on. This is really an awkward situation. This is the time you really start wondering how to improve your memory in remembering names.
Here are the suggested simple and easy steps for improving your memory when it comes to remembering names:
- Pay attention and repeat the name when it is mentioned. At the onset of introduction to a new person, make sure that you’re listening attentively to be able to hear the name properly and say the name again after it’s said. Use the name repeatedly during the initial parts of the conversation and it will help stick to your mind.
- Associate or substitute the name with another word or an image. For example, the name is Belle, this is easy, just think of a bell, but if the name is quite hard then associate the face of the person with something or someone else whose face you easily remember or has done something you always remember. Make sure to associate or substitute with an image which is very clear to you. Doing this may be fun when you think about it.
- Use the face of the person to remind you of his name. When the person is introduced to you check for a physical trait that sticks out like bushy eyebrows, big eyes or ears, a pointed chin, a crooked nose, pale skin, dark skin, baldhead, crooked or big teeth or short stature, and remember that trait to be able to associate the name with the face. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all about negative traits positive traits also help in easily associating names to faces.
If you do these steps, it’s more likely you will easily remember the names of the new persons you’ve met. Remembering the associated image or word will trigger the name of the person in your mind. You may not be able to do this that easily in the beginning but keeping this in mind and practicing it every time you meet a new person, or even a new animal like a dog or cat, if you are also challenged in remembering animal’s names then eventually you’ll get the hang of it and remembering names will just come naturally to you.
Take these first steps in improving your memory of names. You don’t have anything to lose but a lot to gain and that is a collection of images of persons and their names. You will also be able to entertain yourself while doing this.
